Philip D. Gunderson

Philip D. Gunderson joined Motorola in 1968
as principal engineer in Motorola's Automotive R&D.
In 1972, Philip Gunderson started Motorola’s “Electronic Ignition
Business.” By 1975, this business
had grown to $17 million. By 1976,
Philip Gunderson had advanced to Vice President and Director of Engine
Electronics, which included the three businesses he had started (Electronic
Engine Control Business, Electronic Pressure Sensor Business, and Electronic
Ignition Business). By 1981, the
business had grown to $48 million.
In 1982, Philip
Gunderson became Vice President and General Manger of Motorola's Automotive
Electronics Division and was elected Corporate Vice President in 1984.
In 1985, he became Corporate Vice President and Director of Group
Operations and Services, where he was responsible for the Motorola Automotive
and Industrial Electronics Group's manufacturing worldwide.
In 1987, Philip Gunderson became Corporate Vice President and Director of
one of AIEG's three global businesses, the Sensor and Power Control business,
with sales over $100 million.
In 1988, Mr.
Gunderson presented a business plan to Motorola's Automotive and Industrial
Electronics Group for a fluorescent lamp electronic ballast business, that led
to the creation of a wholly owned Motorola subsidiary company, Motorola
Lighting, Incorporated. Philip
Gunderson then transferred to the newly formed company on the date of its
founding March 1, 1989, as Vice President of Engineering and Technology.
Philip Gunderson
retired from Motorola December 31, 1994 as
Vice President, Motorola Inc., and Vice President, Energy Savings Products,
Motorola Lighting Inc.
Prior to joining
Motorola, Philip Gunderson worked for General Time Corporation and Televiso
Electronics as a design engineer in the area of military radar and video mapping
electronics.
Philip Gunderson has
a BSEE and a MSEE from the University of Minnesota.
He also has had a multiplicity of management and other training at
Motorola.
Philip Gunderson has
seven patents. He was born in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, is married and has four children and nine grandchildren. He currently resides in Arlington Heights Illinois.
Since retirement
Philip Gunderson has served on the building committee, designed the lighting for
the 400 seat sanctuary, and served as treasurer of his church, Our Saviour
Evangelical Free Church. He
currently leads the men’s ministry, trains small group leaders, leads Bible
studies, and sings on one of the worship teams at his church.
He also currently serves on the board of Reaching Indians Ministries
International as treasurer.
